Gymnast Amelia Elena Racea of the Sports National College "Cetate" Deva has been declared the best athlete of the year 2010 in Hunedoara by the County Department for Youth and Sports, this being the second consecutive year that the gymnast is awarded this title.

The gold medal she won in the balance beam final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham – the only gold medal for Romanian seniors - but also the bronze medal in the team final brought Amelia the title of “Athlete of the year” in Hunedoara. Also this year, the 15 year old Amelia Racea became national champion on uneven bars and bronze medalist in the all-around final at the National Championships in Resita.

Liliana Cosma of the National Sports College “Cetate” Deva has been declared the best coach of Hunedoara County – for the fifth year in a row – the club itself being “the public club with the best results”, while “Sports Club Comexim” of Lupeni has been declared “the best private club”.

Marieta Ilcu-Raileanu, interim executive manager of the County Department for Youth and Sports, has announced that the complete lists with the best athletes and technicians in Olympic and non-Olympic sports will be published by mid-January, 2011. Also, the Awards Ceremony will be held at the end of January when the national WAG team is expected to return to Deva.
