The reason for not going to Cottbus
training
PHOTO:GSP

The coach of the Romanian Olympic WAG team, Mariana Bitang, declared, Wednesday, for MEDIAFAX, that the 4 gymnasts initially written down as taking part at the Cottbus World Cup, will no longer participate, because the organizers have changed the program of the competition.

"We would have arrived Thursday night in Cottbus, and the second day, at 2pm, the qualifications would have taken place. We would have had time for training, but the organizers have decided to move the women’s qualification to 10am, so there wouldn’t have been time for anything. We would have barely woken up and headed straight to qualifications. It has been decided to not participate anymore. The girls will only participate at the Paris World Cup". (Mariana Bitang)

The Cottbus World Cup will be followed in the European calendar by the French Internationals, at Paris-Bercy, on the March 19-20. Romania will be represented by Flavius Koczi and Marius Berbecar on the men side, and by Diana Chelaru, Ana Porgras and Sandra Izbaşa on the women's side.

At the competition in France, only the finalists from the World Championships last year were invited, and the top 4 athletes on each apparatus according to the world cup ranks in 2010. The Romanian delegation will be composed from the coaches Ştefan Gal, Octavian Bellu and Lucian Sandu.

Shortly after the French Internationals, artistic gymnastics from across the European continent will be looking towards the European Championships, programmed between April 2-10, in Berlin.

I really hope Amelia will be there. wink

According to a last minute decision, the girls will no longer take part in the Cottbus World Cup, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation announced.
Unfortunately, the reasons for this change are not stated ... I just hope that participation at the Paris World Cup will not be canceled.

Amelia Racea, Athlete of the Year in Hunedoara

Gymnast Amelia Elena Racea of the Sports National College "Cetate" Deva has been declared the best athlete of the year 2010 in Hunedoara by the County Department for Youth and Sports, this being the second consecutive year that the gymnast is awarded this title.

The gold medal she won in the balance beam final at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham – the only gold medal for Romanian seniors - but also the bronze medal in the team final brought Amelia the title of “Athlete of the year” in Hunedoara. Also this year, the 15 year old Amelia Racea became national champion on uneven bars and bronze medalist in the all-around final at the National Championships in Resita.

Liliana Cosma of the National Sports College “Cetate” Deva has been declared the best coach of Hunedoara County – for the fifth year in a row – the club itself being “the public club with the best results”, while “Sports Club Comexim” of Lupeni has been declared “the best private club”.

Marieta Ilcu-Raileanu, interim executive manager of the County Department for Youth and Sports, has announced that the complete lists with the best athletes and technicians in Olympic and non-Olympic sports will be published by mid-January, 2011. Also, the Awards Ceremony will be held at the end of January when the national WAG team is expected to return to Deva.

Amelia Missed Worlds

Unfortunately Amelia’s fibrillar rupture from Rotterdam was a serious one and she couldn’t take part at the World Championships.

Although at some point she appeared to be better and even did her podium training, Amelia couldn't get past the physical pain, missing this competition.

Get well soon, Ama!

Bitang about Amelia in ProSport

ProSport published an interview with Mariana Bitang about the Worlds in Rotterdam, the reputed coach being also asked about Amelia who is a reserve due to her health. Here are the answers:

Prosport - Will the European champion Racea compete at these Worlds?
M. Bitang - She was diagnosed with a small fibrillar rupture which has hindered her training, but we hope to recover her in time for competition. Ama has resumed training only for a couple of days, but it doesn't hurt her anymore and we hope she can help the team.

We're glad that Amelia's health has improved and we also hope to see her compete in Rotterdam.
Good luck and good health, Amelia!
